Some Slaves Just Want to Remain Slaves

Regarding the Democracy in Athens, I think that the reason why slaves are not included in the list for choosing members for a committee is that, since they are slaves, they don’t have the will (or maybe, ‘mindsetting’) of being a leader. However, I can take into consideration the thought that maybe some slaves have inborn intelligences that might only come out if they will be given a chance to become a leader. I think that slavery is still present nowadays, only in a less harsh or in a ‘more appropriate’ way. It seems that to be ‘slave’ or ‘follower’ is already in their nature. Parang they think that they excel in this field, following orders. I always see the smile of contentment in their faces everytime my dad approves or is not disappointed on what they did. So, I think some slaves just want to remain slaves.

Maybe, a solution to the problem is that, the real citizens of Athens must include in the list those slaves who is willing to become part of the committee or those who thinks that they are capable for the job (since the democracy at that time is not based on who is qualified but based on who is willing).
