Now, 7 months have passed, but we cannot say that "we already did our job", let alone ask if "did we do it correctly?", because our "job" or, I'd rather call, our responsibility as citizens of this country is not limited to the elections. Don't tell me that we only have a chance to "correct our mistakes" every 6 years. We have had enough experience with elections to conclude that changing the people in position does not change the system, let alone change situation of our country.
I would like to challenge everyone, starting with the everyone in our class, to be vigilant, to question, to act, as what Socrates did, NOT ONLY during the election period, but in every day of our lives. Because only in this way will we be able to help our leaders in governing our country - constantly checking and reminding them of their responsibility, and supporting the policies and programs we deem meaningful and necessary. Only through a GOOD LEADER and the PARTICIPATION OF THE PEOPLE will we achieve the quality of life here in the Philippines that we so desire. A quality of life that will keep our parents in the country, raising us, their children, to be responsible, participative, and good citizens of the Philippines.
Let me discuss some points with regard to the article "Limelight"
ReplyDelete1. The article didn't state that voting is our only job/responsibility as citizens of this country.
2. Voting is just a part of our rights and the article stated that voting a right leader will be helpful. The article already laid down its prepositions through ads on how to select a "right" person whom to be voted for.
3. The article didn't say that the only way to correct our mistakes is through elections. The article says that it is HELPFUL for the country if we will vote for the "right" ones. Don't speak beyond the article.
Now, here are my points with regard to this article:
1. State any possible actions or exact examples of what the article is saying like give us an example of being vigilant. It's easy to say that a person is vigilant but stating the criteria would be better. What kind of questions should be asked? If we are only thinking of our own good.
2. "constantly checking and reminding them of their responsibility" - HOW?
"supporting the policies and programs we deem meaningful and necessary" - LIKE?
Thanks for your response cause it's kinda clarification.
P.S. I didn't support any candidate during the elections. The article supposed to enlighten us that the politicians' ads can help us in analyzing their characteristics, future plans and the kind of government they want to run.
